Cosmetic surgery is a common procedure with many positive outcomes for patients. However, it can also lead to serious complications. The risks are not always fully disclosed to patients which can create a lot of stress for them. Surgery is not a simple procedure. There are inherent risks associated with any type of surgery. These risks may be higher than others.
Vicarious experience
Vicarious trauma may occur when someone is affected by traumatic experiences. Professional help can be provided to treat the experience. People can share their feelings and concerns with family and friends. While it may be difficult to discuss the experience, individuals should avoid taking a loved one's reactions personally. They should try to continue their daily routines and maintain contact with friends and family members.
Self-rated attractiveness
A recent study looked at the relationships between self-rated psychological well-being and physical attractiveness among adolescents. Participants were asked to rate their own physical attractiveness and self-reported levels of suicidal ideation and self-harm. The results found that male adolescents rated themselves as more attractive than their female counterparts. However, in girls, self-rated beauty was negatively associated to internalized distress. These associations only reached statistical significance in girls, and occurred only in relation to suicidal ideation and self-harmed behavior.
Religiousness
In a new study, researchers found that religiousness influences whether people consider cosmetic surgery. Particularly, people who were more religious were less likely have cosmetic surgery than those who weren't. More research is needed to establish the relationship between religion and cosmetic surgery risk.
Household income
This study has found a relationship between household income and risk for cosmetic surgery. The study found that people with higher incomes were more likely to have the procedure than those who had lower incomes. The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics was used to measure gross household income by the researchers. It is a well-known method of assessing SES. The results have shown that it can be used to assess health disparities within different socioeconomic classes.
Liquid silicone facial injections
Although liquid silicone injections are very popular for cosmetic surgery, there are some risks. Some patients may experience transient bruising and swelling. Others may develop serious complications such inflammatory reactions. The liquid silicone injections might also migrate into other areas of your body, causing permanent injury. The treatment can cause heart attack in extreme cases.
Infections
Infections after cosmetic surgery are a serious risk for patients. Although they are very rare, infections can still happen even with antibacterial medications. Different microorganisms could cause these infections. They are most commonly caused by Staphylococci and streptococci. Other infections, however, have also been reported from non-tuberculousmycobacteria. These infections are often difficult to detect using standard Gram staining. They can also be resistant to common antibacterial drugs.
